The 5%
The 5%" is a reportage inspired by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's early pandemic statement that less than 5% of the population would be infected with COVID-19. However, reality turned out quite differently.
For Inside Over, we followed the stories of the most disadvantaged people, who likely belonged to the 5% Cuomo referred to. Despite the grim circumstances, we discovered inspirational stories revealing the best of New York City's communities.
We documented an organization distributing food in Lower East Side apartment buildings, witnessed food distribution at Bushwick's open fridges, and followed volunteer groups delivering essential goods in Flatbush. We also ventured into neighborhoods where people resisted mask mandates and other public health guidelines.
The 5%" offers a glimpse into New York's complex societal triangle, where rhetoric, activism, and individualism intersect, forming a vicious yet complete shape where every cause meets its effect.

Ecuador: The Great Game
This in-depth story follows the 2019 protests in Ecuador involving indigenous communities in response to President Lenin Moreno's Decree 883. This decree ended decades-long state fuel subsidies as part of an austerity package imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Oil in Ecuador is extracted from the jungle and transported via the Via Auca, a notorious road that cuts through the rainforest. Trucks loaded with crude oil continuously flow along this route, starting from the extraction sites of US and Chinese companies and reaching the jungle gateway, Coca.
This story explores how indigenous communities are caught between capitalist exploitation and dubious subsidiarism, fostering an idealized Western world that erodes and devastates local cultures. In this world, indeed, young people are pushed to learn Spanish as their first language and dream of driving the massive trucks they see rumbling through their lands daily.
